National Defence Academy is a Joint
Services academy of the Indian Armed
Forces, where cadets of the three
services, the Army, the Navy and the
Air Force are trained together
before they go on to
pre-commissioning training to their
respective service academies. It is
located in Khadakwasla near Pune,
Maharashtra.
Naval Academy is the initial officer
training establishment of the Indian
Navy, located in Ezhimala, Kerala.
It conducts basic training for all
officers inducted into the Indian
Navy.

exams
The NDA/NA Examinations are
conducted by the UPSC where only
about 500 candidates selected out of
more than 1,50,000 that appear ever
year.

Examination?
The recruitment is for Army, Navy
and Air force wings of NDA.

What are the Minimum Educational
Qualifications required for
appearing in the exam?
For Army Wing of NDA: 12th Class
pass of the 10+2 pattern of school
Education, or equivalent.
For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA
and for 10+2 (Executive Branch)
Course at Naval Academy: 12 th Class
pass of the 10+2 pattern of school
Education with Physics and
Mathematics, or equivalent
Candidates appearing at the 12th
Class Examination are also eligible
to compete. Such candidates will be
required to submit the proof of
passing the 12th Class Examination
by a date to be specified in the
Commission’s Notice for the
Examination.
What is the prescribed age limit
for the examination?
Unmarried MALES with age not less
than 16-1/2 or not more than 19
Years
There is NO age relaxation in the
NDA/NA
What is the Plan of the
Examination?
The Examination consists of the
following papers and SSB Interview
Test
Mathematics (Objective type) : 300
marks
General Ability Test (Objective
type): 600 marks
SSB interview : 900 marks
Duration of the written exam is
2hours 30 min for each paper.
How can I apply for the NDA/NA
Exam?
The exam is conducted twice a year.
After publication of the
notification of the NDS/NA
Examination by UPSC in October -
November & April - May
