What are the Minimum Educational Qualifications required for appearing in the exam?

Master's degree in Geology/Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized university; or Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; or Master's degree in Mineral exploration from a recognized university (for posts in GSI); or Master's degree in Hydrogeology from a recgonized university (for posts in CGWB) Candidates appearing in the requisite qualification can also apply for the examination but are required to submit proof of passing along with detailed application form.

Is a Candidate who has done graduation without Passing Class X & Class XII eligible for Geologists Examination?

Yes. For Geologists Exams, the candidate is eligible since the UPSC has not specified the mode of acquiring the degree.

What is the prescribed age limit for the examination?

To appear in the exam the minimum age is 21 years on 1st January of the year of Examination. The upper age limit depends upon the category to which you belong. If you belong to, 1. General Category, the upper age limit is 32 years 2. Other Backward Classes, it is 35 years 3. SC/ST category, upper age limit is 37 years

What is the Plan of the Examination?

The Examination consists of the following 5 papers (Conventional type) and Personality Test
Paper I: General English - 100 Marks Paper II: Geology I - 200 Marks Paper III: Geology II 200 Marks Paper IV: Geology III 200 Marks Paper V: Hydrogeology 200 Marks Personality Test with 200 marks will be included in the Final result.

What does the General English and General Studies consists of?

In General English, Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for summary or precis. In General Studies, General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of a nature which the candidate should be able to answer without special study.
